Tottenham Hotspur will aim to get back on track after Andre Villas-Boas suffered an unhappy meeting with former club Chelsea last weekend. Spurs, who looking for their first away victory over the Saints since 1999, a run that has seen them lose all six meetings in all competitions, visit a Southampton side who have taken just four points from eight games to leave them sitting in the relegation zone. Nigel Adkins' position as manager has been questioned as a result and he will know his team still need to address their defensive problems having trailed in all eight Premier League games at some point, the only team to be behind in all of their league games.
• No side have conceded as many goals after eight games of a Premier League season as Southampton have this term (24).
• Tottenham and their north London rivals Arsenal have allowed their opponents the least number of shots (81) in the top flight this season.
Nigel Adkins will again be without Uruguayan Gaston Ramirez as he continues to struggle with a thigh injury. Rickie Lambert is widely expected to return to the starting line-up having been used from the bench in their 4-1 defeat to West Ham last time out. Danny Fox and Luke Shaw returned to training this week and offer options in defence, while Artur Boruc is set to continue in goal despite conceding four on his debut.

Gareth Bale and Moussa Dembele could return for Tottenham on Sunday after missing last week's defeat to Chelsea. Bale is available again following maternity leave, while Dembele is battling a hip problem. The Belgian is the less likely to be involved because his progress was described by Spurs manager Andre Villa-Boas as "slow". Michael Dawson could miss out on the squad through illness, while Scott Parker, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul all remain sidelined.
