Southamptonface Fulham at St Mary's this weekend with both teams looking to improve on their recent defeats in the Premier League. Saints recorded their first win since gaining promotion with their 4-1 triumph over Aston Villa at home, but could not follow that up as they lost away to Everton to make it five losses in their first six games for Nigel Adkins’ men. Fulham suffered their first defeat in three games at the hands of champions Manchester City at Craven Cottage last weekend when Edin Dzeko came off the bench to net a late winner to break the Londoners' hearts. These two clubs have not met since 2005, the last season of four in which they competed against each other in the Premier League. Over those eight matches, Fulham won three and Southampton won one (four draws).

Nigel Atkins has a fully fit squad to select from with the exception of Jack Cork who remains out until next month with a knee injury. This means the return of Danny Fox, who missed the defeat at Everton due to a leg injury, with Nathaniel Clyne slotting back in at right-back after his short stint on the left. Jason Puncheon could be given the nod instead having been dropped for the defeat against Everton, while Maya Yoshida has started the last two in place of Jos Hooiveld after the latter limped out at Arsenal.

Striker Mladen Petric is a doubt with a calf problem suffered in training and his absence would be another blow for the Cottagers, whose manager Martin Jol gives Dimitar Berbatov only a 10% chance of figuring on Sunday. Kieran Richardson is in contention having returned to training, while Giorgos Karagounis made his debut from the bench in the defeat to City and will be pushing for a first start.

Il Southampton ha dominato in lungo e largo in questo primo tempo.
4 chiare occasioni da gol: 1 segnato, 1 sbagliato clamorosamente, 1 salvataggio sulla linea ed 1 gol ingiustamente annullato.
Fulham, se si esclude l'occasione al 46esimo di Rodallega, inesistente.
Possono rientrare perchè sappiamo che i meccanismi difensivi dei Saints non sono proprio perfetti però devono stare attenti perchè i padroni di casa potrebbero raddoppiare da un momento all'altro.

Finita 2-2.
Se nel 1t i Saints si erano fatti enormemente preferire, diciamo che nella ripresa il Fulham ha fatto maggiormente la partita cogliendo 1 palo + 1 salvataggio sulla linea.
Il Southampton si è pericolosamente seduto sino alla clamorosa autorete di Hooiveld che su un tiraccio di Riise(nettamente fuori)...cercando di deviare in corner insacca maldestramente nella sua porta.
Quasi allo scadere Richardson tira e dopo 2 deviazioni la palla entra dentro, spiazzando l'incolpevole Gazzaniga: 1-2.
Ma il Southampton non ci sta e Josè Fonte su calcio piazzato insacca di testa(doppietta) per il meritato pareggio.

Il pari ci sta, principalmente perchè il Fulham ha fatto poco per meritarsi la vittoria, se non cambiare marcia e passo verso l'ora di gioco costringendo i Saints sulla difensiva. Nel primo tempo invece aveva offerto una prestazione imbarazzante per pochezza di idee, tecnica (la partenza di Dembele pesa e non poco) e di gioco (un piano partita vero e proprio). Southampton sfortunato e masochista nella dinamica delle due reti subite, il principale rimpianto probabilmente è quello di esser andato all'intervallo con un solo gol di margine, in seguito ad una prima frazione complessivamente ben giocata, in cui aveva tenuto bene il campo difensivamente (alternando il pressing alto ad un atteggiamento più conservativo, al fine di neutralizzare il possesso palla dei Cottagers) e sviluppato trame offensive efficaci e disinvolte, sfruttando il movimento degli avanti (calati parecchio alla distanza).
