St. Mary's Stadium
Southampton remain rooted to the bottom to the table and without a point after defeats by Manchester City, Wigan Athletic, Manchester United and Arsenal. The pressure is consequently mounting on boss Nigel Adkins, although he remains typically optimistic, and he will be hoping for some relief when Aston Villa arrive at St Mary's. Paul Lambert picked up his first win when defeating Swansea and will not be in a charitable mood. He will also be aware his club need to address a failure to win away from home in 10 league matches. Villa, though, are unbeaten in five league meetings with Southampton, albeit with the most recent coming in 2005 when they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2, with the decisive goal scored by Steven Davis, who joined Saints from Rangers in the summer.
• Saints have conceded the joint-most goals after four games of any team in Premier League history (14 along with Swindon in 1993-94).
• Last weekend Aston Villa ended a run of 13 PL games without a win - but Villa haven't won back-to-back PL matches since May 2011
Nigel Adkins will need to check on the fitness of Jos Hooiveld after he was withdrawn at the Emirates with a calf complaint. If he fails to make it then new signing Maya Yoshida will likely make his full debut. Gastón Ramírez is also pushing for a first start having impressed from the bench in the defeat to Arsenal. Adkins can also welcome back Jack Cork after he returned to action with the Under 21's in midweek, having recovered from an injury that has sidelined him since pre-season.

Paul Lambert has no new injuries worries ahead of Villa’s trip to Southampton. Christian Benteke climbed off the bench to notch in the 2-0 home win over Swansea and is pushing for a starting role up front. At the back, Brad Guzan looks to be favoured between the sticks right now, while the form of Eric Lichaj at left-back is enough to delay Joe Bennett's debut.
