It may be early in the season but Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas will be keen to relieve the pressure with a win against the Royals on Sunday. The Spurs coach has endured a difficult start to his reign with a defeat at Newcastle being followed by disappointing draws at home to West Brom and Norwich. The newly-promoted Reading are also searching for their first win of the campaign, albeit from just two games after their away fixture at Sunderland was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Brian McDermott's men produced a spirited display in the defeat at Chelsea and secured a late draw at home to Stoke on the opening day. With eight wins from their last 10 home games their form at the Madejski Stadium surely provides the best hope of survival this season.

• Pavel Pogrebnyak has scored seven goals from nine shots on target in his Premier League career.
• Tottenham have the highest percentage of shots from outside the penalty area in the Premier League this season (64%).

Reading will take on Spurs with no new injury concerns as only Jason Roberts remaining on the sidelines with a troublesome calf injury. Jimmy Kebe has returned to training this week but isn't expected to feature in this one. Hal Robson-Kanu returned to action for Wales and should be fit for inclusion, while keeper Adam Federici – who pulled out of the Australian squad with a knee injury has made a recovery and will be expected to take the role between the posts.

Andre Villas-Boas has a midfield quandary over new boys Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele for the trip to Reading. Dembele climbed off the bench to grab a goal against Norwich and looks a likely starter for Sunday’s match, while Dempsey’s lack of match fitness may see him settle for a bench role at the Madejski Stadium. Brad Freidel's man of the match performance in the previous game with Norwich may mean Hugo Lloris will have to wait a little longer for his debut between the sticks.
