Swansea experienced their first pointless return from a Barclays Premier League home game last week when champions Manchester United emerged victorious. After scoring for six successive Barclays Premier League games, they have drawn a blank in their last two outings, with their tally of 12 for the season better than only three teams.
It has all gone a bit flat for Villa in recent weeks after an impressive start to the Barclays Premier League campaign. After going seven games unbeaten, they have now won just one of their last five and put in a poor display against Tottenham last week. They have lost nine points from winning positions - the second worst record in the division - heading into the Liberty Stadium encounter. Aston Villa were still champions of Europe when these clubs last met, in May 1983; Swansea won 2-1 at home - their last victory in the top flight before this season. Swansea also won their only other previous top-flight home match against Villa, again by a 2-1 scoreline, in December 1981 when Villa were the defending league champions.
Form guide:

Aston Villa: W L L W W L

• Villa are winless in their last six Premier League away matches since May. It's their worst away run from the start of a season since an eight-match streak without victory in 2003.
