Nikica Jelavic boosted Everton’s promising start to the Premier League campaign with two goals in the 3-1 victory over Southampton last weekend. His impressive goals-per-game ratio in a Toffees shirt is one of the reasons the Merseyside club are sitting pretty in second place. On the other hand, Wigan have slipped towards the drop zone after losing three in a row and Roberto Martinez's week got even worse when he was fined £10,000 for recent comments about officials. The omens are not all that positive for the visit of Everton, with the Latics having beaten them just once in seven attempts on home soil, back in 2008.

Four points after six games is Wigan's worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.
This is Everton's best start to a Premier League season - 13 points with a +6 goal difference. The only other season they have had 13 points after six games was 2004-05 when they qualified for the Champions League.

Latics are likely to be without Paraguayan defender Antolin Alcaraz once more as the 30-year-old continues his recovery from a groin injury picked up on international duty. The three-match ban handed out to Jordi Gomez last week has been rescinded on appeal, meaning the midfielder is available for selection for the Toffees showdown, though he may be forced to take his place on the bench, with Franco Di Santo now edging his way towards full fitness after a recent injury.

A Al Habsi • I Ramis, G Caldwell, M Figueroa • E Boyce, J McArthur, J McCarthy, J Beausejour • A Konè, F Di Santo, S Maloney

Seamus Coleman should continue at right-back, with Tony Hibbert unlikely to recover from a calf problem. With a thigh injury keeping Darron Gibson sidelined, Leon Osman and Phil Neville should remain in central midfield, affording Kevin Mirallas the chance to flourish on the right flank once again. David Moyes will need to check on Steven Naismith's fitness after he sat out the win over Southampton with a knock.

T Howard • S Coleman, P Jagielka, J Heitinga, L Baines • K Mirallas, P Neville, L Osman, S Pienaar • M Fellaini • N Jelavic

Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez is available after the FA rescinded his red card against Sunderland.
Defender Antolin Alcaraz is still nursing a groin problem, and is not expected to return to action until after the international break.
Everton will again be without Tony Hibbert (calf) and Darron Gibson (thigh) for Saturday's game.
The Toffees will monitor Steven Naismith, who is doubtful with a calf problem.

Gran secondo tempo dei toffees dopo un primo tempo (soprattutto la prima mezz'ora) decisamente in difficoltà.

Moyes hails 'fantastic' Baines after defender steals point against former club Wigan. Baines slammed the late spot-kick high past Ali Al Habsi, following Maynor Figueroa's foul on Kevin Mirallas, to give the visitors a point that boss Moyes insisted was the least they deserved for their efforts. Moyes said: 'Leighton's penalty was fantastic and his performance was up there as good as anything.
'We needed it and he drove us on, and we showed great character because we weren't getting a lot of decisions going for us.'

Grande partita di Baines e grande freddezza dal dischetto, davvero un motore inesauribile....lo adoro...
