• The last time West Ham had more points from their opening 15 top-flight games was 1999-2000 (24).
• The last time Liverpool had fewer points from their opening 15 games was 1964-65 (based on three points for a win).
George McCartney remains a doubt for the Hammers, with Joey O’Brien set to keep his place at left-back, allowing Guy Demel another start on the right of defence. Mohamed Diame could replace James Tomkins in central midfield after making a significant impact as a second-half sub against Chelsea last weekend – Tomkins may struggle for a start again, after James Collins slotted in alongside Winston Reid in the heart of defence over the last couple of matches. With Andy Carroll sidelined for a number of weeks, Carlton Cole should lead the line, while Yossi Benayoun comes back into contention after he was unavailable to face parent club Chelsea last Saturday.

Luis Suarez serves a one-match ban this weekend, leaving Brendan Rodgers with a quandary up front. Jonjo Shelvey was fielded as the lone forward in a recent Europa League match with Young Boys and looks the likeliest deputy. A move to the middle would see Shelvey vacate the flank role he was afforded last weekend – this could see Jose Enrique moving to the left of the front three again, though Rodgers has the likes of Stewart Downing as alternative cover. Steven Gerrard was left out of this week’s Europa League clash with Udinese due to illness but will return for the Hammers match. The rested Daniel Agger and Lucas are also set for returns.
