West Ham have made a solid start to life back in the big time, picking up just a point less than cross-London rivals Arsenal. There is, however, still a long way to go and Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has billed Saturday's home date against the Saints as a 'six-pointer'. Southampton will feel exactly the same as they prepare to head for the East End, with Nigel Adkins' side yet to accumulate the points tally their performances have deserved. A leaky defence has been the root cause of their troubles so far, with a division-high 20 goals conceded in just seven fixtures. The Saints will be aware that they need to plug those gaps if they are to stop undermining all of the good work they continue to carry out at the opposite end of the field - with there only seven sides to have scored more goals than Adkins' men so far this term.
• West Ham have scored a divisional high 88% of their goals in the first half this season.
• Saints have dropped the most points from winning positions in the Premier League (11). With those points, Southampton would be second in the table.
Sam Allardyce has concerns over three defenders ahead of Southampton’s visit to Upton Park. Guy Demel and Winston Reid both picked up problems in the home defeat at the hands of Arsenal, while Joey O’Brien missed out against the Gunners due to a hamstring problem. Reid looks the most likely to be in contention following a back injury, with Allardcye stating that Demel looks unlikely to make Saturday's game. Furthermore, forward Ricardo Vaz Te is sidelined for three months with a dislocated shoulder. Yossi Benayoun could be set to fill in on the right of the front three, although Matt Taylor could also be switched to the right flank to cover with Modibo Maiga also in the mix.

Gaston Ramirez has been ruled out by Nigel Adkins as the Uruguayan looks to overcome a dead leg sustained in training prior to the draw with Fulham. Ramirez is recovering well but it's reported that he could yet face a number of weeks on the sidelines. The absence of Ramirez is set to hand Jay Rodriguez another start. At the back, Frazer Richardson was subbed off with a thigh problem against the Cottagers and is also ruled out here. Nathaniel Clyne missed out against Fulham but is back in training and is expected to take his place in the Saint's defence.
