Joyce proud of Reds
Warren Joyce is delighted with his Manchester United side for reaching the Barclays Under-21 Premier League final against Chelsea.
The young Reds won 1-0 at Liverpool's Anfield on Friday night courtesy of a superb strike by Andreas Pereira to set up a clash with the Londoners, although the date and venue are still to be decided.
With makeshift centre-back pairing Paddy McNair and Charni Ekangamene again outstanding, the visitors shut out a side that finished one place above United in the table.
"We've got no right to do what we've done," admitted Joyce. "We've not got a great balance in the team but have a lot of courage and determination. Several players were asked to play out of position and they have done it with great aplomb.
"It was a great goal but, to be fair, we should have been two or three-up in the first half. James Wilson had two sitters for him really. I don't think they had a shot on goal until the second half but had more efforts in the last 15 minutes or so and should have scored.
"Liverpool are a good footballing side who have been together all season," Joyce told BT Sport. "We've used 40-odd players but have just had a run since February of young players playing together. They gave us difficulties but we weathered it and I thought we deserved our win.
"We've had a good run in the end. It's all about performance at a club like Manchester United and you want to develop players but it's also about winning things. This club is used to winning trophies and it's got to develop the players and teach them how to win as well."

Lewis Baker earns Chelsea victory at Manchester United in Under-21 final
It may not fit with Greg Dyke's vision for the future of English football and B-teams in the lower divisions but Chelsea's production line is functioning just fine. The FA Youth Cup winners completed a double at Old Trafford where a superb late winner from Lewis Baker secured the Premier League Under-21s trophy at the expense of Manchester United.
United were given further confirmation of the promise of James Wilson and Tom Lawrence, the two United youngsters handed Premier League debuts by Giggs against Hull City last week, plus the depth of talent coming through at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea carried the greater physical strength, particularly through the spine where Andreas Christensen was an assured, intelligent presence at centre-half, the captain Nathan Ake was composed throughout and Ruben Loftus-Cheek dominant alongside him in central midfield. At the head of diamond Lewis Baker provided the creative spark and forced Ben Amos into the first save of the final with a shot from 25 yards. The England Under-19 international roamed everywhere in search of the ball, an encouraging trait that took him too deep in the first half but was rectified to telling effect for Dermot Drummy's side after the break.

The visitors probed patiently whereas United broke with purpose. Wilson met Saidy Janko's right-wing cross with a venomous shot that was destined to test Jamal Blackman in the Chelsea goal until it cannoned against Lawrence. The 18-year-old showed there is more to his game than finishing in United's next attack as he cushioned another Janko delivery into the path of Lawrence, who stepped inside two defenders to curl a fine finish beyond Blackman.
Chelsea equalised with an equally impressive finish 10 minutes later. Ake drove through the middle and picked out Charly Musonda on the edge of the United area. The Belgium Under-17 captain showed a rapid turn of pace to cut across United's central defenders and drill a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner.
United almost restored their lead through Lawrence and Ben Pearson but Chelsea improved as the final wore on. Baker blazed a glorious chance over from Loftus-Cheek's cut-back, Amos denied Loftus-Cheek with his legs from close range and, with 12 minutes remaining, the visitors struck a fine and merited winner. There was only one intention on Baker's mind when he collected a lay-off from Islam Feruz on the corner of the penalty area. A sweeping finish into Amos' far corner was executed to perfection to give Chelsea the trophy.

Manchester United's Under-21s bounced back from their midweek defeat to Leicester City with a hard-fought point against an accomplished Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge.
Will Keane gave United the lead two minutes into the second half from the penalty spot after Chelsea defender Ola Aina had handled. But Chelsea were level 12 minutes later as Andreas Christensen headed home Lewis Baker’s corner.
The point gained enabled United to regain top spot in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League ahead of neighbours Manchester City.

Victor Valdes took a team talk before his first ever game for Manchester United - and left his fellow players in awe.
The 32-year-old Spain goalkeeper gave the Under-21 squad an insight into the motivational techniques of his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.
Under-21 boss Warren Joyce said Valdes delivered a "brilliant" speech.
Valdes was preparing to compete in his first game since recovering from a serious knee injury .
He played for United's Under-21 side in a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Leigh Sports Village on Monday.

Manchester United took a huge stride towards retaining the Barclays Under-21 Premier League title with a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.
Wayne Rooney played for an hour as planned and Phil Jones came through the entire 90 minutes unscathed as Warren Joyce's side took the points with Paddy McNair's second-half winner.
