Marouane Fellaini looks set for his debut following a deadline day switch from Everton with Tom Cleverley likely to make way. Phil Jones remains a doubt with the ankle problem that forced him off against Liverpool and with Rafael still recovering from a hamstring injury, Chris Smalling or Antonio Valencia could be handed the right-back berth. Moyes has decisions to make on the flanks – Shinji Kagawa impressed for Japan in midweek but is now struggling with flu and Nani is pushing for a start after signing a new long-term deal. Wayne Rooney has recovered quickly from a head wound though Moyes admitted his return would be "a risk".
New boy Adrian Mariappa could come into contention for a starting role at centre-half and offer competition to Damien Delaney and Danny Gabbidon, while Jonny Williams and Jack Hunt added to the Eagles’ ever-growing injury list after both were ruled out with ankle injuries during the week. Summer signings Jimmy Kebe and Jerome Thomas remain out, with Jose Campana and Jason Puncheon expected to continue on the flanks, with Dwight Gayle fielded through the middle alongside Marouane Chamakh.
