Maarten Stekelenburg, Aaron Hughes, Darren Bent and Matthew Briggs have all been ruled out by Martin Jol in Friday’s press conference. Summer signing Fernando Amorebieta comes into contention for the first time this term after recovering from injury to turn out for Venezuela in midweek, while Kieran Richardson is back after a hamstring problem. Dimitar Berbatov should lead the line in Bent’s absence, while Jol could hand Bryan Ruiz the role in “the hole”, having utilised the Costa Rican on the right flank last time out.
Steve Clarke has revealed James Morrison is still a doubt due to a groin injury, while Matej Vydra, Ben Foster, George Thorne and Steven Reid all remain on the sidelines. The Baggies boss has already utilised 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formations this season but could move to a 4-2-3-1 in order to accommodate new boy Stephane Sessegnon in “the hole”, while deadline-day arrival Morgan Amalfitano and Victor Anichebe could also be in line for starting berths as Clarke attempts to address his side’s inability to find the net.
