Blackburn have opened up a three-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone, although their climb away from trouble was halted following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Bolton. But manager Steve Kean remains optimistic his side will beat the drop after seeing them collect 10 points from their last six games. Rovers also caused one of the shock results of the season when they triumphed 3-2 over Manchester United at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve.
Manchester United rode their luck on Monday to secure a 1-0 win over Fulham, who had a late penalty appeal turned down, to move three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have lost just one of their last 16 Premier League away games, coming at Newcastle in early January. They will be looking to notch a fourth straight win on the road after victories at Wolves, Tottenham and Norwich.
• Only the top six teams in the league have scored more goals in the Premier League than Blackburn (43), but only Wolves (65) have conceded more than Steve Kean's men (62).
• Manchester United have kept more clean sheets than any other side in the top division (15) and have netted the most goals (74).
