Aston Villa are still reeling after letting their two-goal lead slip at Arsenal in the FA Cup having been on the right end of a five-goal thriller last time out in the league, winning 3-2 at Wolves. Alex McLeish’s side haven’t tasted victory at home in their previous five matches, losing four, but have only lost twice in 12 meetings against fellow sides in the bottom half. QPR clawed their way out of the bottom three last time in the league after ending their nine-game winless run with Mark Hughes’ first victory in charge at the expense of fellow strugglers Wigan. The R’s have triumphed three times on the road this season, at Everton, Wolves and Stoke, but have lost four of their last five away matches, scoring just twice in the process.
• Aston Villa are attempting to win back-to-back league matches for the first time this season.
• QPR are looking to win successive Premier League matches for the first time since December 1995.
Aston Villa will again be without defender James Collins and winger Marc Albrighton when they host Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night. The pair missed Sunday's FA Cup defeat to Arsenal and are unlikely to have recovered in time for this one. Charles N'Zogbia should return to the squad though, but the form of on-loan striker Robbie Keane may restrict him to a bit-part performance.
Djibril Cissé could make his debut for Queens Park Rangers after his transfer from Lazio. The France forward is awaiting international clearance and may line up alongside Taye Taiwo and Nedum Onuoha, the new defenders. Unlike his new team-mate, Bobby Zamora won't be eligible to feature against Aston Villa. Hughes has injury concerns over Heidar Helguson, who is doubtful with a knee injury, while Federico Macheda faces a late fitness test on a groin problem. Jay Bothroyd is also unavailable because of a groin injury, while DJ Campbell has a hamstring strain and will not feature.
